What is Lymphedema?
According to National Cancer Institute, “Lymphedema is the build-up of fluid in soft body tissues when the lymph system is damaged or blocked”.
Two Types of Lymphedema:
Primary Lymphedema is caused by abnormal development of lymph system which can occur at birth or later in life.
Secondary Lymphedema is caused by damage to the Lymph system, often a result of infection, cancer, injury, removal of lymph nodes, or radiation.
- Swelling in the arm or leg
- Heavy feeling in your arm or leg
- Trouble moving a joint in the arm or leg
- Itching of the legs or toes
- Trouble sleeping
- Loss of hair
- Thickening of skin
